There
are various ideas as to the origin of Reiki, and the Usui System
was created by Dr Mikao Usui. He was asked if he believed in the
healing miracles of Jesus Christ and had no answer. Dr Usui's search
began whilst he was reading Buddhist scriptures, which, stated that
Buddha was an enlightened master who travelled widely in India around
600BC teaching meditation and self-realization, and possessed the
power of healing. He concentrated his search on specific information
about Buddha's methods studying original Indian and Sanskrit writings.
He was advised by a Buddhist abbot to meditate and fast for 21 days
on a holy mountain. This he did, and on the last day saw a light
in the sky quickly moving towards him. This light struck him in the
middle of his forehead and he became unconscious. Whilst unconscious
he was taught the secrets of "Universal Life Energy" healing
which he later named Reiki.
As
he was returning from the mountain he hurt his toe and it bled. He
held his hands around his foot and the bleeding and pain immediately
stopped. This was his first experience of healing. Dr Usui then worked
in the slums of Kyoto healing the sick, but after seven years realised
that although their physical problems had healed the people did not
attempt to change their ways or handle responsibility. He then created
the Reiki Principles to ensure Reiki was not abused.
The art of Reiki healing was brought to the West through grand masters in spiritual succession to Usui.
Reiki is the greatest vibration of "Life Energy" there is available to man. It is neither positive nor negative and has a "divine" quality that is experienced in many ways, yet, is unique and not aligned to any religion. Reiki is a key part in the new consciousness arising from the "celestial speed up", a way to reclaim our healing heritage and an evolving healing force. It is the way forward to heal both mankind and the planet by being accessible to all, thus ensuring the bigger Reiki puzzle is pieced together. As I said at the top of the page, Reiki is unbelievably simple and simply unbelievable.
So
how do you find out more ? Well, I advise everyone to consider having
some Reiki before they begin learning how to do it for themselves.
As for reading material. There are an ever increasing number of books
available on Reiki, and some are inevitably better than others. I
do believe that once you start looking through a few, you will find
the right book for you.
